The location and size of the damage determine if the stone chip is repairable.
Star break: Several short cracks or legs that originate from the center impact point.
Bullseye: Damage that is marked by a separated cone in the outer layer of glass that results in a dark circle with an impact point. There are no cracks coming from a true bullseye break.
Halfmoon: Partial bullseye.
Combination break: Damage with multiple characteristics, such as a star within a bullseye.
Batwing (cut): Very small impact point with a small crack coming from each side.
WINDSHIELD REPAIR:
Improves the optical clarity in the damaged area by significantly reducing the visible damage.
Creates a smooth surface to prevent interference with the windshield wipers.
Prevents the original damage from spreading further.
Adds strength to the windshield.
Retains the original seal and saves the windshield.
*In the acute area, repair is recommended if the damage can be completely covered by a 25 cent US coin (.95 inch diameter circle (24.13 mm.), if the finished pit will be less than 3/16 of an inch (4.76 mm.) and there will be minimal cosmetic blemishes remaining in the damaged area after the repair is completed.
Windshield repair is not recommended under the following circumstances:
Damage penetrating both layers of laminated glass
Damage with three or more extended long cracks
Damage contaminated by chemicals which inhibit repair
Damage on the inside layer of glass
Damage that is dirty
Damage in a heated wiper rest area
Damage in a fully heated windshield
Damage with pit size larger than 3/8 of an inch (9.525 mm.)
Damage with pit depth to the laminate
Cracks that run through the acute area of the windshield
Edge cracks that intersect more than once with an edge
Stress cracks
